He founded his own business, a UK multisector, multi-discipline recruitment firm, focusing on C-Suite recruitment within the construction and infrastructure industry. Despite challenging times, the business thrived, earning a reputation for unparalleled quality of delivery and profitability.

In 2016, Lumb's entrepreneurial journey took an unexpected turn. A corporate finance house, acting on behalf of a private equity firm, approached him with an opportunity to sell his business. Embracing change, Lumb exited the recruitment sphere for a couple of years. During this time, he engaged in non-executive board work, coaching, and mentorship within the business services sector.
